Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday passionately advocated for the resurgence of Indian languages, asserting that they are the very "soul of the nation's identity." Speaking at the launch of 'Main Boond Swayam, Khud Sagar Hoon', a book authored by former civil servant IAS Ashutosh Agnihotri, Shah delivered a strong message, declaring that the time has come to reclaim India's rich linguistic heritage and lead the world with profound pride in its native tongues. His comments underscore the government's push for linguistic decolonization and a greater emphasis on indigenous cultural roots.
In a particularly striking statement, Shah remarked, "In this country, those who speak English will soon feel ashamed -- the creation of such a society is not far away." He emphasized that only those with unwavering determination can bring about such a significant societal change, highlighting his belief that the languages of India are the "jewels of our culture," and without them, the true essence of Indian identity is lost.
The Home Minister further elaborated on the crucial role of native languages in understanding India's rich tapestry. "To understand our country, our culture, our history, and our religion, no foreign language can suffice. The idea of a complete India cannot be imagined through half-baked foreign languages," he stated. Acknowledging the formidable challenge ahead, he expressed full confidence that Indian society would ultimately prevail in this "battle," envisioning a future where India operates with self-respect in its own languages and leads on the global stage.
Shah also outlined the 'Panch Pran' (five pledges), a concept coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that these pledges have now become the collective resolve of 130 crore people across the country. These pledges serve as a foundational roadmap for India's progress, emphasizing core national values and aspirations.
He detailed these five pledges for the 'Amrit Kaal', a term referring to the period leading up to India's centenary of independence in 2047: achieving the goal of a developed India, getting rid of every trace of slavery, taking pride in our heritage, staying committed to unity and solidarity, and igniting the spirit of duty in every citizen. Shah firmly believes that these five resolves will propel India to its pinnacle by 2047, with its diverse languages playing a pivotal role in this transformative journey.
